Detox After a Cheat Day

Detox after a cheat day And get back on track with your fitness goals

It’s only normal for each one of us to “slip up”, have a “cheat day” (or a whole weekend!) and indulge in eating too many donuts, pizzas or having a few too many cocktails. We’ve all done it - it’s called “enjoying your life”. No need to feel guilty about it or give up on our goals. Instead, we should just focus on bouncing back stronger and sticking to a healthier lifestyle. I, personally - follow these 5 tips to help me get back on track.

HYDRATE
Water is extremely important for our metabolism and it’s important to have lots of it, especially if you’ve had a few too many Margaritas. Alcohol can really dehydrate the body, so you should focus on drinking half of your body weight in ounces. You can use this Daily Water Intake Calculator to check how much water exactly you should have. Also - a smart way to remind yourself to drink up is with an app - my favourite one is Aqualert. I love the splashing water sound it makes!

EAT YOUR VEGGIES
If you have indulged in high-carb, greasy or sugary foods, which are hard to process then your body has been put in overdrive, so it is important to give it a bit of rest. Enjoy fruits and vegetables, preferably raw. Make a green juice, have a fruit bowl for breakfast or grill some veggies for dinner. Aim for fiber-rich foods like celery, kale, broccoli, brussel sprouts as they will help you feel cleansed from the inside.

BOOST YOUR METABOLISM

Take the cleanse further by having some meta-drinks. And no, that’s not a fancy name for a tequila shot! Metabolism-boosting drinks are a mixture of apple-cider vinegar and spices found in your pantry that have metabolism-boosting properties and help increase your energy levels! Check out these five recipes for Metabolism Boosting Drinks. Cheers!

HIIT THE GYM
Cardio workouts like HIIT (High Intensity Interval Trainings) that raise your heart rate level and make you break a sweat are the fastest, most efficient way to burn calories and lose weight. If you’ve had too much salt over the weekend (pizza, chips or cheese and crackers) it could make you bloated. HIIT will help you shed some of that water weight quickly. My favourite HIIT workout is by ToneItUp and it’s called (appropriately) HIITY Bitty Bikini. Check it out!

REST UP
Get some quality sleep, so your body can recover. You actually burn calories while you sleep too, so it is important that you give your body enough time to rest and recharge. Also - you will crave less high-carb food the next day. Studies show that sleep-deprived people tend to reach for sugar more often than those who have a good night sleep. So - rest up, buttercup!
