5 Tips to Help You Achieve Your Fitness Goals in 2018

"New Year, new ME!" - we've said it before, but how many times have we actually stuck long enough to our goals to actually start seeing some changes?

To make sure those New Year's resolutions don't just stay written on paper - check out these 5 tips to help you achieve your fitness goals in 2018.

Make it a habit

Resolutions don't stick, habits do. By carving out a little time slot in your morning routine for a 30 minute workout session and sticking to it for at least 21 days, you're much more likely to turn it into a lifestyle. Because loving your body and taking care of yourself should be a lifestyle, not a fad.  If you, like me, are fascinated by how our brains work and how habits are formed - I recommend grabbing  The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg and digging in. Read now, thank me later when you become a master of your daily routine.

Don't over-complicate

Make it easy for you to follow through. Don't go for the super strict nutrition plan if you've been living off Domino's Pizza and barely know how to boil an egg. Start small by simply introducing more veggies into your diet and having one meal that is made of non-processed, whole foods, then gradually move to a full day of only healthy meals. That means - nothing that comes out of a box or its ingredients you're not able to pronounce.

Be prepared

Lay out your workout clothes, prep your meals for the week, always have a nut bar or an apple in your bag. Honestly, preparation is key. It takes the wondering what to eat out of the equation and makes it easier to follow through on your plans. And you don't get tempted to grab a sugary treat that's packed with artificial ingredients and has zero nutritional value. If you are looking for an easy meal plan to follow and some great meal-prepping tips - check out Tone It Up's 5 Day Detox plan: it's jam-packed with nutritional advice and there are even workouts included!

Accountability

Get a buddy to go to workout classes together. This can be a tricky task because accounatbility partners may support you, but may also slip at some point (hey, I get it - we're all human and who can say "no" to a chocolate glazed donut?) Try to find someone who will support you and cares enough about you to push to be the best version of yourself. Or just find someone who hates chocolate and will kick your butt if you miss a day at the gym. That would do.

Celebrate milestones

Stop and appreciate how far you've come along. Take a selfie at the beginning of every week. Not to post on social media or to scrutinise the size of your thighs but to really see what amazing progress you're actually making. We're not great at judging our own progress, because we see ourselves in the mirror every day, but when you compare photos taken even just two weeks apart, then you'll really be able to appreciate your hard work and how it's paying off.

Make 2018 your year! Lace up your sneakers and GO!
