DIY: Cute Spice Containers from Upcycled Jars

Got Some old jars laying around?
Instead of throwing them out - how about upcycling them? All you need is a bit of acrylic paint and printable tags and you can turn them into cute spice containers!

What you need:
Twine (or any other type of thin string - not thread though!)
Scissors
Acrylic paint
Empty jars
Paint brush or makeup sponge
Printable jar tags (if you like the ones I used - there is a download link at the end of the post)

And here is what you need to do:

Start off by thoroughly cleaning the jars and drying them out (especially the lids, as we will be painting over those!)
TIP: to easily remove any labels, soak the jars in hot soapy water for about 10-15 minutes. This will soften up the glue and the labels will come off very easily. Use steel wool dishwashing for especially stubborn labels.

Start applying the acrylic paint to the lids. I found that using a makeup sponge instead of paint brush makes for smoother and more even application.
Leave for an hour to dry and apply a second coat.
With acrylic paint I found that even the black lids don’t need more than two coats.

Print out and cut the tags or create your own!

Thread the twine through the hole of the tags.

Tie around the neck of the jar.

And you are done!
A little army of lookalike jars.

And here is a link to the printable tags that I created and used.

Let me know if you decide to upcycle your jars and how they turned out!

xoxo,
